Medway Youth & Community Organization

Medway Youth Community Organization would like to challenge all residents to participate to show their support for a community center which would provide programs and a place for socializing for our youth during after school hours.  All proceeds from the race will be used towards MYCO's goals of developing a community center for Medway.  For further information, contact Carol at 533-2792 or Margie at 478-3714.

WHAT IS MYCO?

As you know, the Town of Medway offers a great deal to its young citizens.  We have terrific sports programs, wonderful schools and church youth groups.  All these organizations are run by dedicated adults and are well attended by teens and adolescents.

BUT:

What happens when it’s off season for your child’s activity?

And what about those children not involved in athletics?

Where can our youth go to do homework with friends or just hangout together?

Are they going home to empty houses because their parents must work?

How do we keep them off the streets and in a positive, supervised, and enjoyable environment?

These are some of the issues the MEDWAY YOUTH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION (MYCO) is trying to address.

WHAT ARE WE:     MYCO is a voluntary, non-profit organization established in the spring of 1998.  The immediate focus of MYCO is to work towards finding a facility and providing activities for our youth after school hours and on weekends.  We are looking for a positive environment where teens can spend their time outside school and home.  The Organization feels that by doing this, the entire community will benefit.  MYCO has garnered enthusiastic support for our efforts from the Town of Medway, Medway Schools, the Dare program and the Medway Lions.

WHERE WE ARE AND WHERE WE WANT TO GO:     Our Site Committee is working to lease a site.  We have had several donations of pool tables, Ping Pong table, music, etc.  Some activities that MYCO is considering are: rollerblading clinics…movie nights...dances…theater groups…ping pong tournaments...iceskating...donkeyball... and many others.  Our ultimate long term goal is to establish a permanent facility where a variety of programs would be available for all residents of Medway.

WHO WE ARE:     MYCO board members are enthusiastic citizens of our community.  We are parents, business people, educators, members of other town organizations and students.  We all agree that a facility for young people to congregate would be an asset to our community.  In light of recent and tragic news events involving teens, we are sure you will agree with us that this age group deserves some special attention.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?     WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT, DONATIONS, COMMENTS, AND SUGGESTIONS.

Encourage your children to become involved either as participants or student advisors.  Please feel free to let us know what you think about our goals or any suggestions you may have or if you know anyone who would like to make contributions (financial or otherwise) to this worthy cause.  Our monthly board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Memorial School.  Your comments may be sent to the address below or you may e-mail your comments by visiting our web site at www.geosities.com/heartland/valley/1816.
